The Policy Studies Institute (PSI) conducted a virtual meeting with the African Economic Research Consortium (AERC) to enhance collaboration and address key economic challenges facing the continent on September 5,2024.

PSI had a strategic meeting with AERC virtually at the presence of the DG of both institutions, Professor Victor from AERC and  H.E. Professor Beyene  Petros from PSI.  The AERC Reseach Managing Director  Professor Abbi and other AERC staff members and researchers from PSI have also attended the session. The meeting intends to enhance the strategic collaboration of both institutions in terms of capacity building, generating rigours seentifc evidence and supporting the policy formulation and implementation process in Africa and beyond. The MasterCard capacity building project has also been a point of discussion. Supporting the HGER in Ethiopia through scientific evidence was also highlighted in the discussion

Founded in 1988, the African Economic Research Consortium (AERC) serves as a capacity-building institution aimed at informing economic policies in sub-Saharan Africa. The inception of AERC dates back to the late 1980s, when a small group of Africanists and scholars recognized a significant disconnect between economic policymaking and research in the region. Research findings that were applicable to other economies often did not suit the African context, and even when relevant results were available, they were frequently underutilized.

H.E. Prof. Beyene Petros, Director General of the  Policy Studies Institute(PSI), held a productive discussion with representatives of the United Nations University (UNU)International Institute for Global Health (UNU-IIGH) on August 20, 2024. The focus of this online meeting was to explore potential collaborations between PSI and UNU-IIGH with the aim of leveraging their respective strengths to address critical global health challenges.

In a significant step towards understanding the challenges faced by children and persons with disabilities in Ethiopia, a stakeholder consultation workshop was organized by the Policy Studies Institute(PSI) and Inclusive Development Partners(IDP) on August 15,2024 at The Capital Hotel, Addis Ababa. The workshop aimed to gather valuable inputs from a diverse range of stakeholders to inform the design and implementation of a nationwide survey on the situation of persons with disabilities in the country.

The ad-hoc committee at the Policy Studies Institute (PSI) has finalized a comprehensive Public Civil Service Commission Reform Execution Plan to guide the implementation of the public sector reform agenda on July 19,2024 at the Capital Hotel. This plan, developed on the basis of extensive consultation and analysis, outlines a structured approach to ensure the effective and sustainable implementation of reforms at the Institute.

Historic Trilateral MoU Signed to Advance Social Welfare and Evidence-Based Policymaking in Addis Ababa , Ethiopia on July 9, 2024 at the premises of the Policy Studies Institute( PSI). In a significant milestone for social development in Addis Ababa, the Policy Studies Institute (PSI), the Addis Ababa City Administration Mayor Office Strategic Programs Management Office (AASPMO), and the Addis Ababa City Administration Women, Children and Social Affairs (AABoWCSA) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to forge a powerful partnership.

The National Consultation Forum on the Development of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Agreement National Implementation Strategy for Ethiopia was held on Saturday, June 29, 2024, at the Skylight Hotel in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

The forum began by opening remarks from Prof. Beyene Petros, the Director General of the Policy Studies Institute, Mr. Wubie Mengistu, the Secretary General of the Ethiopian Chamber of Commerce and Sectoral Associations (ECCSA), Dr. Stephen Karingi, the Director of the Regional Integration and Trade Division of the UNECA and H.E. Gebremeskel Chala, the Minister of the Ministry of Trade and Regional Integration (MoTRI).

The staff of the Policy Studies Institute discussed the new civil service reform at the Capital Hotel and Spa on June 25, 2024. During the discussion among the staff, H.E. Prof. Beyene Petros, the Director General of the Policy Studies Institute, explained that the purpose of the meeting was to inform the staff about the civil service reform.

The First National Ethiopian Housing Symposium is set to take place over two days, from June 21 to June 22, 2024, at the Haile Grand Hotel. This national symposium is being organized by a collaboration of several key stakeholders, including the Policy Studies Institute, Habitat for Humanity Ethiopia, Addis Ababa University, the Ethiopian Institute of Architecture Building Construction and City Development, The Association of Ethiopian Microfinance Institutions (AEMFI), the the Ministry of Urban and Infrastructure, GoH Betoch Bank, and UN Habitat.
