Researchers from the Policy Studies Institute (PSI) presented the results of a baseline survey on the impact of lease financing on the performance of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) at the PSI premises on December 8, 2023.

The researchers emphasized the important role that SMEs play as a driver of economic growth. They also emphasized that SMEs in developing countries face many critical challenges, with lack of access to external finance being a particular problem. Furthermore, they underscored  that there are overlooked groups that have difficulty obtaining external credit.

The Policy Studies Institute (PSI) and Addis Ababa University (AAU) have presented a proposal on the new national school leaving exam administration at the Premises of PSI on November 30,2023. The central thesis of the two giant institutions’ proposal is the recent exam administration exposes alarming decline in Ethiopia’s student performance.

A workshop entitled “Investigating Barriers to Access and Usage of Housing Finance in Ethiopia" was held at the Harmony Hotel on November 28, 2023. The aim of the workshop was to bring together various partners, including government organizations, leading financial institutions, UN-Habitat, universities, microfinance institutions, real estate and savings groups and cooperatives.

The Mekedonia Humanitarian Association is a testimony to the highest form of humanitarianism in Ethiopia. On November 29, 2023, the Policy Studies Institute (PSI) staff had the privilege of visiting the Mekedonia Humanitarian Association (MHA). Their goal was to help the people who have found inhabitant in the center with essential hygiene items and clothing. MHA is located in the Lemi Kura Subcity in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia,in the immediate vicinity of Hayat Square. The staff learned that MHA serves as a shelter for adults, the elderly and people with various physical disabilities and mental illnesses.

In collaboration with the Ethiopian Public Health Institute (EPHI) and School of Public Health of the Addis Ababa University (AAU), Policy Studies Institute (PSI)  organized a workshop and presented key preliminary findings of the studies undertaken under the Catalysing Change for Healthy and Sustainable Food System initiative on the 16th and 17th of November 2023 at Jupiter International Hotel in Addis Ababa.

FDRE Policy Studies Institute and URAXESS Africa hosted a Virtual Training Workshop on Grant Writing on November 9, 2023.  About 130 participants of different countries, including Ethiopia, have participated in the webinar. Government and non-government organizations, academic and research institutions, actors from the private sector,  and individual researchers have attended the two and half an hour event. The event was a great opportunity to promote PSI and its mission by forging a partnership to solve research challenges.  

FDRE Policy Studies Institute organized a three days impact evaluation training workshop in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, from 31 October to 3 November 2023. The aim of the workshop was to improve the research capacities of junior researchers, postgraduates and policy makers in the field of impact evaluation of development programs and policy interventions.

 

A four-day training workshop on impact evaluation begins at PSI on November 31,2023. The workshop, which will be held from Oct. 31-Nov. 3, 2023 aims to enhance the research capacity of early career researchers, postgraduates and policymakers in assessing the impact of development programs and policies.

A workshop titled "Economic Value of Urban Ecosystem Services in Addis Ababa" was held at the Capital Hotel and Spa on October 12, 2023. The workshop brought together officials, experts, and academics from various Federal and Addis Ababa City Administration Institutions. The event was organized by the policy Studies Institute (PSI) in collaboration with the Addis Ababa City Administration Environment Protection Authority.

A workshop focused on building resilience to climate change was successfully held on October 12, 2023 at the PSI Main Meeting Hall. The workshop, organized by the University of Copenhagen Development Economics Research Group (UCPH-DERG) and the Policy Studies Institute (PSI), aimed to launch the 2nd Household Survey Report and discuss key findings related to climate change resilience in Ethiopia. Dr. Tadesse Kuma provided an overview of the workshop's objectives and agenda.

The Indian Ambassador to Ethiopia and the African Union, H.E. Ambassador Shri Robert Shetkintong and the Second Secretary of the Embassy H.E. Ranjeet Kumar visited PSI on October 11, 2023 . The purpose of the visit is to link one of India's most prestigious think tanks, the Research and Information System for Developing Countries (RIS), with the Policy Studies Institute (PSI) to work together on global and regional issues.

A delegation consisting of Issaev Leonid, Vice Director of the Center for Stability and Risk Analysis, and Prof. Andrei Zakharov of HSE University of Russia visited the Policy Studies Institute (PSI) on October 10, 2023.

A delegation consisting of three World Data Lab (WDL) officials visited the Ethiopian Policy Studies Institute (PSI) on November 9, 2023 to establish a partnership and explore potential opportunities for collaboration. The goal of the visit was to leverage the expertise of both organizations to create evidence-based knowledge and support Ethiopia's development goals.

The  Policy Studies Institute conducted an internal validation workshop on the research report titled "Reestablishing Capital Market: International Experiences and Lessons to Ethiopia" on September 29, 2023, at the premises of the Institute.

The workshop "Rural Household, Agriculture and Climate Change – why and how Farmers (do not) adapt in Ethiopia (RACE)" workshop took place on September 22, 2023, at the Capital Hotel and Spa. The event commenced with an opening speech by H.E. Prof. Beyene Petros, Director General of Policy Studies Institute (PSI). The workshop was organized by the Environment and Climate Research Center (ECRC) of PSI in collaboration with Bahir Dar University (BDU).

Representatives of major Chinese companies in Ethiopia recently visited the Policy Studies Institute (PSI).

The purpose of the visit was to share their companies' experiences with the Policy Studies Institute’s research project entitled The Chinese Path to Modernization as an Inspiration for Ethiopia's Economic Development.
